Johnson Smith aims at misfiring Asante Kotoko strikers

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Johnson Smith has termed as disturbing how consistent the failings of the club’s strikers has been.

Since selling top marksman Kwame Opoku, the Porcupine Warriors have struggled to find an adequate replacement for the former Nkoranza Warriors hit man. Additions made to the striking team include Andy Kumi, Solomon Sarfo Taylor and Michael Vinicius Moraes; with the latter’s contract mutually terminated.

The aforementioned names added to a list that had Ibrahim Osman, Evans Adomako and Nabby Keita. However these players have failed to replicate the successes of Kwame Opoku upfront early on in the season, heaping a burden on the club’s other department to help the situation.

The continual striking issue has not helped matters as Kotoko has slipped in the title race with 2 matches remaining while they could only edge lower tier side Asokwa Deportivo to progress to the quarter final in the MTN FA Cup.

Speaking in the aftermath of that slim margin victory against Deportivo, Smith lamented the club’s ailing striking department.

He said “It’s very challenging. We have some (players) in the squad who see themselves as strikers but their performances does not meet the standards of a Kotoko striker. It’s very disturbing.

It’s now a huge probability that Asante Kotoko will enter the market for a potent front man when the current campaign draws to a close.
