Jose Mourinho’s Roma are among the clubs interested in securing the signature of Ghana and Hoffenheim defender Kassim Nuhu, deep-throat sources in Ghana have disclosed.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been a long target for the former Chelsea manager and nearly joined him at Tottenham Hotspurs.

The story of Kassim at Hoffenheim has not been the best in the last two years with the player going on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2019/20 season.

The Ghana defender who has eight senior caps for the Black Stars joined the Die Kraichgauer in 2018 after winning the Swiss Super League with Young Boys.

The Ghanaian arrived at the Rhein-Neckar Arena with high hopes but his full potential has not been seen.

Sources close to the player in his home country indicate that he’s not happy at Hoffenheim and is ready to bid goodbye to the Bundesliga side.

Fortuna Dusseldorf tabled an offer to make his loan deal permanent but Kassim turned it down in 2020 only to return to Hoffenheim and still be denied playing time.

Some clubs in Spain and France are believed to be interested too, but AS Roma would certainly the first option for the Ghanaian with Mourinho’s influence.

Sources in Italy, however, indicate that Mourinho is also eyeing a loan move for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma depending on the outcome of the move for Kassim Nuhu.

His contract at Hoffenheim runs until 2023.

The Ghana center back has played 36 games in all competitions since joining from Young Boys in 2018.

A move to AS Roma is likely to revive the career of the Ghana center back due to Mourinho’s excellent working relationship with Ghanaian players.

Kassim could be the 5th Ghanaian player to work with the Portuguese manager after Emmanuel Duah, Michael Essien, Christian Atsu and Baba Rahman.
