Kotoko players gave up on the league title after Hearts of Oak defeat - Nana Yaw Amponsah

The Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has taken a swipe at the playing body and the hierarchy of the club for failing to stay together following their defeat to Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupine Warriors were piped by a lone goal by their rivals in the matchday 31 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored the only goal of the game to give Hearts of Oak the advantage to be champions.

The results left fans and some players of Kotoko in disarray for the last three games, a mood the Kotoko CEO feels it is not acceptable.

“After we lost the Hearts of Oak game, people from all aspects gave up including the playing body,” he told Happy FM.

“That saddened me and I really don’t understand why it was so because we didn’t lose the league title just because we lost Hearts game.

“The attitude of the playing body and the hierarchy of the club gave up because they felt we have lost the league title which should not be so.

“Should have recorded a win against King Faisal and Bechem United, I am sure the winner would have been decided on the last game of the season,” he added.

The club’s CEO admitted that he felt the club could have still gone on to fight for the league if the players as well as the whole body has maintained their focus after the game at the Accra sports stadium.

Kotoko will now play Elmina Sharks in their last league game at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, with a second-place finish the only high for the club.
