LIVE UPDATES: Morocco 1-0 Ghana – 2021 AFCON in Cameroon

Good evening and welcome to today’s live text commentary for the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Morocco and Ghana.

The two strong national teams are set to lock horns this evening in a Group C encounter of the ongoing delayed 2021 AFCON being staged in Cameroon.

Today’s anticipated tough contest is scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Ahead of kick-off, Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac has named an exciting starting eleven to do battle for the Black Stars.

England-based Joseph Wollacott is the goalkeeper for Ghana this evening with a back four that has Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku combing as the centre back pair.

3′ Early minutes in the first half, Ghana clearly dictating play. Another corner kick to the Black Stars.

4′ Great display of trickery from teenager Kamaldeen Sulemana results in another corner kick. Paintsil sends in the cross but once again Morocco clear their lines.

6′ Morocco threatens with a first attack and wins a corner kick. Great delivery finds Romain Saiss but his header fails to find the right target. Goal kick to Ghana.

8′ The Moroccans have come in strong in the last few minutes. Ghana soaks the pressure and now has possession. time to build from the back.

11′ Great pressing play from defender Andy Yiadom who wins possession for Ghana. It has been a slow start to the game for both teams.

15′ Andre Ayew appears to have received a painful knock. He tracks back to head clear a dangerous clear. Corner for Morocco but it is wasted.

16′ Alexander Djiku goes into the book of the referee. He receives a yellow card for a bad tackle.

18′ Striker Jordan Ayew is sent through by an over-the-top kick from Daniel Amartey. He is beaten to it by the Morocco goalkeeper who protects the ball to win a goal kick.

20′ Free kick for Ghana in a dangerous area. Baba Rahman sends in a bad cross. Goal kick to Morocco.

25′ The tempo of the game has slowed down in the last five minutes. No team is threatening enough.

28′ Jordan Ayew has been left chasing the game since the start of the game. Kudus to the Morocco defense who have totally isolated the forward from the game.

30′ We have done half an hour in this contest. Still no goal from either side.

31′ Relief for Jordan Ayew after a neat play on the flanks. He holds up play and wins a free kick in a dangerous place for Ghana.

32′ Thomas Partey curls one but his effort fails to dip in time. Goal kick for Morocco.

35′ We are into the last five minutes of the first half. The deadlock of the game remains unbroken.

38′ Free kick for Morocco on the edge of the Ghana area. Dangerous indeed for the Black Stars. This could result in a goal. Saiss gets on the edge of a powerful delivery but is unable to hit the target.

40′ Five minutes to halftime. Still, anybody’s game to win!!!

42′ CHANCE!!! Joseph Paintsil goes on a fantastic solo run but his shot at goal flies over the bar.

45′ We will do a minute of added time. Morocco 0-0 Ghana.

Halftime:

The first half of the Morocco v Ghana game ends goalless at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium. Not a lot of action but definitely a result both teams will be content with.

We are back after 15 minutes for the second half action.

Second Half:

45′ Ghana kicks us off for the second half of the game against Morocco at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

47′ Game unable to flow with both teams committing multiple offenses.

50′ Ghana is under a lot of pressure with Morocco constantly keeping possession.

51′ Andy Yiadom makes a timely interception to stop a goal-threatening move initiated by the Moroccans.

54′ Joseph Paintsil and Kamaldeen Sulemana go on a counter-attack. Paintsil tries to put his teammate through but the Moroccan defense averts the threat.

60′ An eventful last five minutes but still no goal. Joseph Paintsil and Kamaldeen Suleman have been lively for Ghana so far.

63′ Andre Ayew is shown the yellow card for a bad foul.

65′ Great play from Kamaldeen Sulemana, Baba Rahman eventually sends in a cross and finds Andre Ayew. The Ghana captain tries a one-time finish but his effort goes over the bar.

70′ More set pieces come the way of Morocco. Ghana however manages to deal with the threat on all occasions to stay in the game.

72′ CHANCE!! Joseph Paintsil with a fantastic effort from outside the Morocco area. His effort heading into the top corner is well saved. That was close.

75′ Break in play after a head clash in the area of Morocco. Andre Ayew has sustained a cut on his head and needs medical attention.

76′ Temporal hold up after that nasty head clash.

78′ Andre Ayew is back on the pitch after getting his head bandaged and his blood-soaked shirt replaced.

83′ GOAL!!! It is Morocco with the lead. Sofiane Boufal latches onto a loose ball in the Ghana area and hammers in an unstoppable strike from close range.

85′ Three Ghana changes sees Daniel Kofi Kyereh and Abdul Fatawu Isshaku being introduced into the game. Will there be a way back for Ghana?

90′ Thomas Partey makes way for striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom. We will do two minutes of added time.
