Medeama goalkeeper Boris Mandjui successfully undergoes surgery; set to return after six months
Medeama SC will be without safest pair of hands, Boris Johnson Mandjui Jnr for the rest of the season after successful surgery on his left knee.
The goalie, who sustained an injury in the 3rd minute of the club’s last match of the first round of the GPL at Akoon Park against Dreams FC but had to endure till the end of the 90 minutes in a game Medeama was confirmed to have had a ligament tear by the club’s surgeon at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Boris has since been put on medication by the medical expert for the wound to heal and possibly recover in a minimum of 6 months baring any setbacks; ruling him out of the entire second round of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season of which Medeama are currently ranked 6th with 29 points.
Before his injury, Boris kept 16 out of the 17 matches for Medeama in the first round (starting from match-day 2 against Bibiani Goldstars) to conceding 6 goals in the process and managing 10 clean sheets.
John Mossie manned the post during the club’s first match after Boris’s injury with a clean sheet against 3rd placed Bechem United to mark Medeama’s match-day 18, which the Mauves won by a goal to nil at the Akoon Park courtesy Vincent Atinga’s spot-kick.
Medeama’s next encounter is on Sunday, March 6, away to Bibiani Goldstars, with whom Medeama split points on November 9, 2021.
