Mercy Tagoe insists Black Queens were more intelligent than Nigeria despite defeat
Black Queens coach Mercy Tagoe has hailed the intelligence of her players despite losing to the Nigeria in the AWCON qualifiers.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday courtesy a brace by their Sweden-based striker Uchenna Kanu.
Speaking to the media after the game, Tagoe was impressed with the intelligence of her players despite admitting the Nigerians were stronger than her team.
“We played well, tactically we were very disciplined we came to play football, unfortunately, the Nigerians are stronger and tougher than we are. But when it comes to intelligence, we are far ahead of them.” Tagoe said.
“When you are playing away game it’s not easy so we are going back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes.”
The return leg will be played in Accra on Sunday.
The winner of the tie will progress to the final round of the qualifiers.
