MTN FA Cup : Hearts defeat Sharks on penalty shoot-out to book quarter final slot
Hearts of Oak continued their title defence with a win against Elmina Sharks on Sunday.
The Phobians sail through with a 10-9 win on penalties after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time to advance into the quarter final stage.
Hearts started the game very well looking to take an early lead.
Joseph Essam was forced to make a save from Isaac Mensah following a cross from Sulley Muntari.
The visitors goalkeeper few minutes later also denied Salim Adams with a great save.
Hearts finally took the lead on the 31st minute, Isaac Mensah connected a corner from Sulley Muntari put the host ahead.
The host maintained their lead till the blast of the first half whistle.
Back from recess, Elmina Sharks came really strong in the second half and eventually got the equalizer in just two minutes from the break, kind courtesy Ishmael Antwi.
Ishmael Antwi made it 1-2 for Elmina Sharks on the 77th minute after his feeble shot went passed Richmond Ayi.
Hearts were awarded a penalty in added time after Patrick Razak was brought down in the penalty box.
Kofi Kordzi stepped and converted nicely to get Hearts of Oak back on level.
The game ended 2-2 despite ten minutes of additional time.
Hearts of Oak cruised to the quarter final after winning 10-9 on penalties.
