Nigeria vs Ghana: Check out why Everton star Alex Iwobi was dropped from Super Eagles squad for Black Stars clash
England-based star Alex Iwobi was dropped from the Nigeria squad to play Ghana in their decisive 2022 World Cup playoff later this month because he is suspended.
Iwobi, who plies his trade for Everton forward was not included in the list of 32 players invited by coach Augustine Eguavoen on Friday for the two matches to be played in three weeks’ time.
His exclusion does not come as a major shock for fans of the Super Eagles since the youngster is suspended for the match against the Black Stars of Ghana.
The midfielder was part of the squad that participated in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon but unfortunately for him, he picked up a red card in their 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the Round of 16.
He was sent off by Senegalese referee, Maguette N’Diaye after a reckless tackle on opposing player.
The Super Eagles coach excluded the player because he had a red card in their match against Tunisia in Cameroon which means he is suspended for the game.
The camp opens in Abuja on 21st March, with a 24 –man final list for the two big games to be released at a later date.
Nigeria take on Ghana in the 20,000 –capacity Cape Coast Sports Stadium from 7.30pm on Friday 25th March, with the reverse leg set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March from 6pm.
