Pray before you officiate your games’- GPL referees told
Referees in the Ghana Premier League have been advised to get prayerful and spiritual as they bid to end the season on a high.
This advise comes from the Head of the Referees Association of Ghana, Joe Debrah who believes a whole lot is set to unravel whiles approaching the climax of the season.
Ghanaian referees have been under the microscope each passing match week. Overall, refereeing performance in the ongoing season has been described by many as unsatisfactory with mistakes and incorrect decisions featuring among fallouts from match venues after games.
The league is at a crucial stage where teams are battling for either the league title or survival in the top flight, and Joe Debrah envisages strange things are bound to happen.
He has therefore passed on a word of counsel to the GPL referees via a radio interview with Kumasi-based Silver FM.
He said “as we near the end time, there will be difficult and challenging moments. Same thing applies to our football, during the last lap, so many things happen.
“Anything that has a name does exist. It could be bribe or any other thing. Look at how referees are been suspended. They should pray before they go to officiate a match because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. So that they can get all their decisions right for the best team to carry the day.
“It will be disheartening to see a team being relegated, player being sent off as well as a coach being sacked because of bad officiating.
“Therefore I am pleading with the referees to lift up their game and put up their best performance for the betterment of our football”, he concluded.
