Sporting Kansas City II sign defender Joseph Addo Tetteh from Accra Lions

Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club has acquired 19-year-old left back Joseph Addo Tetteh on season-long loan from Ghanaian side Accra Lions FC with options to buy the player at the end of 2022.

Tetteh becomes the second player to join Sporting KC II on loan from Accra, following the arrival of striker Rauf Salifu earlier this month. The Ghanaian duo has ventured stateside ahead of Sporting KC II’s 2022 campaign in MLS NEXT Pro, a new professional league that will kick off in late March. First-year head coach Benny Feilhaber and assistant coach Ike Opara, standout players for Sporting last decade, will lead SKC II for the club’s seventh season since launching in 2016.

Like the free-scoring Salifu, Tetteh burst onto the scenes during the 2020-21 season in the second-tier Ghana Division One, propelling Accra Lions FC to a league title and promotion to the Ghanaian Premier League. The versatile defender started regularly at left back in his first year with the club after joining from the Tudu Mighty Jets in October 2020, anchoring an Accra defense that posted an impressive 0.96 goals against average.

Tetteh has carried his strong form into the 2021-22 Ghanaian Premier League campaign, tallying two assists in nine appearances.
