STATEMENT: DOL Board commiserates with family of late Jones Alhassan Abu

The Division One League Board has commiserated with the family of the late Jones Alhassan Abu following his shocking death on Tuesday.

The astute football administrator was reported dead in the capital city of Ivory Coast when he was on a football assignment.

Jones was a member of the GFA delegation that led Hasaacas Ladies to their maiden WAGU Women’s Champions League.

He fell I’ll there and was hospitalised but unfortunately he passed on on Tuesday.

His death has brought sorrow and melancholy in the football family.

In a statement signed by the Board Chairman of the Division One League Board, Akwasi Agyeman, the board shared their condolences with the family, acknowledging the immense contribution of the late Jones Alhassan Abu who was a member of the board.

“The Division One League Board {DOLB) learnt with shock, on Tuesday 10th August 2021, the sudden death of our member, Jones Alhassan Abu, after a short illness in Ivory Coast,” the statement read.

“Prof, as he was affectionately called, was a key pillar of the board and his knowledge on footballing issues was legendary.

“He was a definition of passion, dedication, determination and hard work. No wonder he died on duty.

“Our sincere condolences and sympathies go to the family particularly, and to the football family for the loss of such a great man.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace. Prof. Rest well,” he added.

The Kate Jones has since been buried in his home city of Tamale on Wednesday morning after the body was conveyed from Ivory Coast to Tamale.
