Thousands rushing to get vaccinated in Cameroon to watch 2021 AFCON live in stadia
There are mad rush for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines in Cameroon as football lovers look to earn the pass to watch the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament live in stadia.
As part of efforts by CAF to ensure there is no spread of Covid-19 during the delayed tournament, it has decided that the only people that will be allowed to watch matches live in the stadia are people fully vaccinated.
With just a few days to the start of the tournament, authorities in Cameroon says thousands of people have rushed for the vaccines.
According to Gabriel Ndze, vice president of the local taxi drivers association in Cameroon, he just like many people have received the vaccines just so they can watch the AFCON matches live.
“I am not taking the vaccine because I really trust it. No. My main problem is to get to the field, see players like Sadio Mane from Senegal, Mohamed Salah from Egypt and all of those strikers that play in Europe,” he said.
Ndze continued, “I have been hearing about them but I have not seen them. This is an opportunity for me to take my vaccine, then get to the field to see them. Most of the people are taking this vaccine now just because of the Nations Cup.”
A few thousands are expected to get vaccine in the next few days before the AFCON officially starts on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
