We must win against South Africa – Richard Ofori
Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori has targeted victory against South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Bafana Bafana will host the Black Stars in matchday 2 of the qualifiers at the FnB stadium on Monday.
Ghana are on top of Group G after beating Ethiopia in the opener, with South Africa and Zimbabwe having a point each due to their stalemate last Friday.
At the pre-match conference, the second deputy captain of the Black Stars who ply his trade for Orlando Pirates in South Africa disclosed their opponents has quality but says it is important for Ghana to win.
“This game is very important, it’s not for only me, it’s for the nation because we know how the nation love the game and then how important this game is for the nation because we want to go to the world cup that is the stage every player want to play. So is very important for the team and then for the nation”
“I have played with most of their players here and I know their quality, they are very good but at the end of the day, we are Ghana so we need to show that we are Ghanaian national team and the most important thing we need to win” he said.
After missing the 2018 event in Russia, Ghana has set their sights on returning to the World Cup.
The Black Stars reached the world showpiece in Germany 2006 where they were making their first appearance.
They then went on to reach the Round of 16.
They secured a qualification ticket for the South African 2010 edition. This campaign saw them reach the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Uruguay.
They made their third consecutive appearance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but they were forced to exit at the group stage for the first-time.
