We played against a Ghana side with 10 times experience – Hugo Broos
South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos says he is proud of his team despite the defeat to Ghana in the final Group G game of the Africa qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Bafana Bafana on Sunday night lost 1-0 to the Black Stars and as a result, have missed out on qualification to next year’s global tournament.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Hugo Broos who was disappointed shared that his team tried to secure the needed result.
According to him, South Africa can feel proud for the performance in Group G although they missed out on an experienced side.
“Look, we came here to try to play a good game, to play a draw or maybe win. When you are so close, and you’re in the position we were in, we tried to do it. But again, we played against a very strong team, and the team with 10 times more experience than we have, at the moment,” Hugo Broos said after the game.
He added, “We are a new team, so you cannot blame South Africa not to be qualified for the next round. Not at all, but you can be sure that there is a team again in South Africa, and that will try to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations finals (in Ivory Coast in 2023).”
