World Cup play-off: We have to be in Kumasi to win - Ex-Nigeria captain Mutiu Adepoju on Ghana clash

Former Nigeria captain Mutiu Adepoju has eyed Ghana scalp in the first leg of the crucial World Cup play-off.

The Super Eagles will play the Black Stars in a two-legged encounter on Friday with the winner securing one of the five slots on the African continent.

The first leg of the titanic qualifying tie will be played on March 25 at the Baba Yara Stadium. Four days later, the two giants will meet again in Abuja with the aggregate winner qualifying for the tournament later this year.

Speaking to SuperSports, Adepoju cautioned the Super Eagles not to be complacent ahead of the epic clash on Friday, March 25, 2022.

“I didn’t want us to be up against Ghana,” he told SuperSport programme Naija Made.

“This is because any game against Ghana is always tough.

“But with the draw we now just have to play against them.”

“We have to take the two games very seriously, we can’t afford to be complacent,” ‘Headmaster’ Adepoju cautioned.

“This will be a new Ghana, not the team we saw at the last AFCON in Cameroon.

“We have to be in Kumasi to win.”

In head-to-head meetings between the two West African rivals, Ghana enjoys the superiority having won 25, drew 19 and lost 12 in 56 clashes.
