Two Ridge Hospital Staffs cash in on PPE amidst shortages

Two staff of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital also known as Ridge hospital has been caught on tape by the BBC Eye Africa in the brisk business of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) meant for front-line staff of the hospital.
The two, Thomas Osei, a pharmacy worker and Divine Kumordzi, a member of the hospital’s sewing team’s illegal activities were revealed in an investigative piece gathered by the ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas

The two sells and divert PPE supplies meant for front-line workers of the Ridge hospital while medical staff risks their precious lives in the fight of the pandemic due to lack of the PPE’ s.
Thomas was captured selling protective coveralls, face shield among others while Divine sold in-house made PPE’s made for use by staff.
The investigative piece revealed that the hospital had since suspended the two to enable a probe into their illegal activities.

PPE Shortage in Ghana’s Hospital.
Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) are a key component in the fight against the Covid-19 Pandemic, as healthcare workers globally rely on them to protect themselves and their patients from being infected and infecting others.
With its global demand currently, Ghana’s hospitals have not been spared from shortages of the equipment which includes gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, face shields, gowns, and aprons.
The Ghana Medical Association has so far reported that more than 2000 health workers have been infected with the disease with six others reported dead as of July 17, 2020.
