Corruption Perception Index: NPP’s Elis Botah blames Akufo-Addo over latest ranking

A former Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Elvis Banoemuleng Botah has blamed the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo over Ghana’s position on the latest corruption perception index released by Transparency International.

He said the “The entire problem we have with corruption in this country and under this administration is nothing beyond the personality and attitude of the President, it ends there”.

Mr Botah was speaking Pan African TV‘s Good Morning Africa on Thursday, February 2, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

“There is no debate about it because if you charter a path of leadership that creates the room for impunity, and indiscipline, you cannot expect to reap anything good”.

“We have arrived at whatever ranking on the corruption perception index simply because the posture of the president is a posture that does not show any example of punishing children for the purpose of what is right and proper and what the means is that you cannot be wrong to safely conclude that the President is at the helm of the criminal syndicate that perpetrate corruption,” Mr Botah said.

The report ranked Ghana 72 out of 180 countries and 43% out of a total of 100%.

Myjoyonline report Chairperson for Transparency International, Delia Ferreira Rubio, described corruption as a phenomenon that “has made our world a more dangerous place.”

“As governments have collectively failed to make progress against it, they fuel the current rise in violence and conflict – and endanger people everywhere. The only way out is for states to do the hard work, rooting out corruption at all levels to ensure governments work for all people, not just an elite few,” the report quoted him to have said.
