Three days of intensive joint operations by the National Insurance Commission in the Western Region and the MTTD have shown that 90% of vehicles in Sekondi-Takoradi are insurance compliant. That is according to the Western Regional Manager for National Insurance Commission, Justice Adjie Peprah.

Motor insurance option provides cover for loss of or damage to your vehicle as a result of theft or fire, as well as third-party liability cover. This means that if you are involved in an accident with a third party which was deemed your fault, the insurance will cover the costs of any claims made by the third party against you.

The Motor Third Party Act of 1958 clearly states that all vehicle owners must have a cover that provides unlimited bodily injury and death compensation to third parties such as occupants, fare-paying passengers and pedestrians.

It’s on the back of this that the National Insurance Commission and the insurance companies in the western region have stormed some streets within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and its environs to ensure that vehicle owners have insured their cars both private and commercial as well as their validity.

Mr Justice Adjie Preprah speaking to Skyy News said, “About 10% of the vehicles that we have checked in Sekondi-Takoradi don’t have valid insurance, and those ones are people whose insurance has expired and it can be as a result of renewal issues.”

“We have few cases where other people have not done insurance at all, and we will advice these drivers to insure their vehicles because there are flexible terms that you can pay for 6 months if you can’t pay for the full year.”
