Axim Gov’t Hospital shuts female and Maternity ward over Hollywood movie
The female and Maternity Ward of the Axim Government Hospital in the Western Region has been closed down by the hospital authorities over the decision to shoot some Hollywood movie at the facility.
The residents of the community are outraged and are demonstrating for the hospital administration to cancel the agreement with the Hollywood officials.
Axim Youth Alliance, a group leading the demonstration has petitioned the government through the District Assembly over the issue.
Solomon Eshun, the leader of the group speaking to Skyy Power 93.5FM indicated that the movie crew has not yet started to shoot the movie, as such, it is not right to shut down the facility for months now.
He said, “They closed the Female Ward and Maternity Block in August 2021. We were told the closure was for the production of a movie but since then, the contract has ended, and yet the production of the movie has not even started.
“Both males and females are sharing the same ward, this is causing congestion. So we plead with the authorities to open it immediately.”
He then made it known how pregnant women have been affected by the hospital’s decision to close down the facility saying, “Just last week, three women came to deliver, but because of unavailable space, these women in labour had to sit in plastic chairs to wait for their turn to deliver.”
“Why should this be happening when there is a big facility sitting there idle?”
Mr Eshun further indicated that, since the movie crew are not yet in, the authorities should open the facility to serve patients who are in need of health care.
