Social media activist and #FixTheCountry campaigner, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor has begun a hunger strike to protest the Ghana Police Service’s refusal to complete processes to set him free after the court granted his bail application on Wednesday.

3new. com report said Mr Barker-Vormawor has also told the police he will no longer welcome visitors while still in custody.

The #FixTheCountry campaigner was granted bail on Wednesday, March 16, more than a month after he was arrested and detained over a comment he made on social media.

 He had written on his Facebook page on “If this E-Levy passes after this cake bullshit, I will do the coup myself. Useless Army.”

He was whisked away at the Kotoka International Airport on February 11 , two days after the post and on arrival from the United Kingdom(UK) and had has since been in police custody facing charges of treason felony.

3news.com report, all efforts to get him bailed at the superior court proved futile after the Attorney General, Godfred Dame wrote to Justice Daniel Mensah, a judge presiding over his case that Mr Barker-Vormawor, among other reasons, has no fixed place of abode in Ghana, thus making him a flight risk.

He was however, granted a GH¢2 million bail by an the court yesterday (Wednesday)  with two sureties. One of them should have documents covering land properties.

 His passport seized earlier due to his said flight risk status, will still be in safekeeping of the prosecution”.

As part of the bail conditions, he is also to report himself once a week at the station of arrest.

Barker-Vormawor is however, still in custody hours after his bail was granted as processes for his bail are yet to be completed.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service said they are awaiting the completion of his bail conditions to set him free.
