Ghanaian journalist and former Media General reporter, Mr Solomon Mensah is set to launch his debut book onto the Ghanaian market.

The book titled “Derailed: When Common Sense Eludes a Nation” to be launched at the Advent Press in Accra on March 7, will detail the dwindling fortunes of Ghana.

The book is a collection of some thought-provoking articles worked on and published by the journalist from the year 2014 to 2019 and covers wide range of issues including politics, security, health, sanitation and host of others prominent and crucial to the development of the country and its citizenry.

Speaking to GhanaPlus.com, Mr Mensah said “The abysmal performance of the Ghana Police Service in handling the case of the Takoradi girls, for instance, is captured under ‘Security’ in a series of articles I wrote on the issue”.

Under Politics, he said “The case of the infamous Montie 3 and others also tell us that dirty politics will take us nowhere”.

Derailed: When Common Sense Eludes a Nation

The title “Derailed: When Common Sense Eludes a Nation” he equates it to a moving train which has gone off its rails and the adamancy of the manager to return back on track despite cry by passengers.

“Derailed: When Common Sense Eludes a Nation is likened to a train (here Ghana) that has gone off its rails. Sadly, while the train’s passengers shout and scream for their lives, the train driver and other people who help manage it either directly or indirectly see nothing wrong with the situation of the train. Clearly, it’s the lack of common sense that has had the train derailing,” he said.

The renowned journalist was however, hopeful Ghana(train) can go back on track with the right mindset from all and sundry, its leadership most, especially.

“All is not lost. If we all especially ,the country’s politicians would eschew partisan politics, embrace nationalism and let common sense lead, we will see our country develop,” he said.

On his reasons for the compilation of his over 5year journalistic works into a book, Mr Mensah said the practice is common elsewhere.

He noted it is only to give readers a quick access to all his works at a go.

“Journalists or columnists compiling articles for columns they wrote is a common practice across the globe. What such book does is, it gives a quick access to readers to the variety of issues the columnist wrote on. It’s true my articles are out in the public already but they are scattered. I needed to compile them and group them under subheadings to tell a particular story,” Mr Mensah said.
