Ghanaian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration place closely 5000 youth into gainful employment.

The Ghanaian-German Centre for
Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (GGC), in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the Labour Department, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the
Delegation for German Industry & Commerce in Ghana (AHK) has organized job fair to support government effort in creating jobs to the youth.

The Job fair and Reintegration is part of the global project titled,
“Programme Migration for Development” (PME), which is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry
of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR).

The objective is to support Government’s effort at improving living conditions and provide opportunities to enhance job prospects, now and in the future.

According to, the head of Ghanaian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration, Mr. Benjamin Woesten this entails activities to promote education, training and employment
opportunities. The support is aimed not only at the local population and internally displaced people, but also at those returning home from Germany.

The Ghana Job Fair seeks to build the employability of job seekers in the fast-transforming employment space. This year’s ‘Green Edition’ aims to promote sustainable jobs in Ghana, such as eco-friendly and digital work. It also aims to promote networking between job seekers and industry players by highlighting the Government of Ghana’s employment efforts to stakeholders in the country.

According to the 2021 Ghana statistical service report, Ghana has recorded 9.6% (15-35) youth unemployment rate and about 33% unemployment rate among young adults (15-24) despite the investments and initiatives toward employment promotion.

There is the need to invest more in practical and transferable skills such as Information Technology, Digital and TVET, to equip young people with the requisite competences for employment or entrepreneurship

He added that since 2019, the Ghana job fair has a total of 10, 927 youth, who have benefited from direct engagement with employers, counseling sessions on career opportunities and training on entrepreneurship skills, through the job fair close to 5000 job seekers has been placed in gainful employment in the country.

The Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko Brobbey, highlighted that the Government of Ghana through the National Green Jobs Strategy
aims to create decent and sustainable job opportunities for the teeming youth in Ghana.

It contributes to the realisation of the development objectives of the
two countries in the area of
employment promotion and sustainable development. He added

“The German Government contributes to employment promotion in Ghana as a measure to help curb dangerous and irregular migration among the youth in Ghana”.

He appreciate the cooperation that exists between the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and GIZ Ghana.
