High Court Judge orders GBC, TV3, GHOne reporters, others not to write in her court

A Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court, Justice El-Freda Denkyi on Thursday, July 15 ordered journalists not to write in her court room.

3news.com court correspondent report, the journalists from reputable media house including the state owned GBC and private owned ones such as TV3, GHone, and  Daily Guide were asked not to be seen writing or typing on their phones.

“Before she expressed the difficulty of the court to empanel jurors, she indicated she has been told there were some journalists in the court room and proceeded to ask them to stand.Whiles the journalists who were there to report on the matter were on their feet, she ordered none of them should be seen writing in her court,” the report said.

She stressed, “you are free to observe proceedings but do not record by writing”, the report added.

Prior to the order, the journalists were warned by police officers on duty not to be seen either writing or typing proceedings of the day on their mobile devices.

“Before the order was given, police officers in the court room had already warned the journalists who were from TV3, GHone, Daily Guide and GBC not to be seen writing or typing on their phones”.

“The police officers proceeded to tell the clerk of the court about the presence of the journalists through which the Judge was informed”.

The Case

Justice El-Freda Denkyi is the Presiding judge in the murder case of two police officers who were  brutally killed in broad day light  along the Kasoa-Budumburam-Aprah road on August 28, 2019 while on duty.

The accused Eric Kojo Duah have been charged with murder while Michael Sarfo Ani, havebeen charged with abatement for killing the two police officers, General Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal and Lance Corporal Michael Dzamesi.

However, the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court today, for the fourth time in a role was unable to empanel jurors to commence trial.

Presiding judge, Justice El-Freda Denkyi, told parties involved in the case, the court was finding it difficult getting jurors for trial to commence.

She however, assured them the jurors would be empanel for trial to begin.
