I’ll contest for NPP parliamentary position again – Adwoa Safo

Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has declared her intention to contest again in the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to represent the party in the same constituency in the 2024 general elections.

She made the announcement to the press on Friday, August 11 when she toured the constituency.

“I have spoken to the chiefs and assured them that we will facilitate the steps for the construction of the roads but I also let them realize the fact that our constituency is the largest, so much is expected to be done but a few areas have benefited from good roads but that doesn’t mean that the rest should be left ajar the way we saw it.

“I have given them my word, as the MP I will ask questions on the floor, and I will lobby the Roads Minister to ensure that the rest of the roads are actually constructed.”

She added “As we toured, you saw the enthusiasm, the happiness, and the good reception that I still have with my people, it tells me that I still have some goodwill in the constituency so I will build on that definitely when the time comes.  I shall not desert my people, I shall represent them again by God’s grace.”

It is recalled that some members of the NPP  believed Adwoa Safo was sabotaging the government for his persistent absence from Parliament.

For instance, the MP for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, said she made the work of the government in Parliament difficult.

“All the problems government is facing are attributable to Adwoa Safo. Clearly, her intention and posture show that she wants to sabotage NPP,” he said on Kumasi-based Hello FM.

The MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong also revealed that the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare gave him ¢120,000 to be deposited into the bank account of Adwoa Safo for her to attend to Parliamentary duties to work for the government.

“The Chief of Staff called me and I went, I swear my mother’s grave, Chief of Staff gave me ¢120,000 and deposited into Adwoa Safo’s Fidelity Bank account.

“I took the money there into the Fidelity Account, ask her personal assistant if what I am saying is not the truth,” a furious Kennedy Agyapong said.

He added “Now we are in opposition, the way Adwoa Safo is treating the party, it is clearly showing that we are in opposition and this shouldn’t be tolerated at all,” he told Asaase Radio on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Mr Agyapong had raised issues against the conduct of Sarah Adwoa Safo.

He said that the former  Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection failed in life for requesting that she should be made a Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament.

He wondered why a cabinet minister will now want to occupy a position that is below the rank of a Minister.
