Kissi Agyebeng must lose close political friends, start corruption fight from Presidency to succeed

The President and Founder of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe has said the Special Prosecutor nominee, Mr Kissi Agyebeng will win the fight against corruption if he begins the fight right from the door step of the presidency.

Mr Agyebeng, a smart lawyer and a nice man, he said must also lose many close political friends to succeed in his new office.

“I know Mr. Kissi Agyebeng. Smart lawyer & nice man. He will succeed as SP when he starts the fight from the presidency &he must lose too many politically close friends”.

Mr Cudjoe made the comment in a twitter post on Monday, April 26, following the announcement of Mr Kissi Agyebeng, a private Legal Practitioner and a Criminal Law Lecturer as the country’s new Special Prosecutor.

His nomination follows the resignation of Mr Martin Amidu, the country’s first Special Prosecutor in November last year.

A letter signed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame said his appointment was in accordance with section 13(3) of Act 959 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017.

“Section 13(8) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) requires the President to appoint a person qualified for appointment as Special Prosecutor to that position, within six months of the Office of Special Prosecutor becoming vacant.

In accordance with section 13(3) of Act 959, I hereby nominate Kissi Agyebeng, Esq. for the appointment t o the position of Special Prosecutor, subject to the approval of majority of all the members of Parliament”.

The letter dated April 16 also noted the President , Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was satisfied about the credential of Mr Agyebeng in the areas of corruption, integrity and moral character.

“I am satisfied that Kissi Agyebeng possesses the requisite expertise on corruption and corruption related matters, is of high moral character and proven integrity and satisfied all the requirements stipulated in section 13(1) and (2) of Act 959,” the letter said.

Mr Kissi Agyebeng is expected to be vetted and approved by Parliament before he assumes office.
