Nana Addo Abolish Office of the Senior Minister

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has abolished the office of the Senior Minister following the resignation of the Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo some few days ago.

The information was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin on Thursday, January 22, 2021.

Role of the Senior Minister

The Senior Minister, a leading role in the first term of the President, was charged with the mandate to exercise oversight responsibility over economic MDAs to ensure prudent economic management.

He was also to facilitate private sector-led growth, leading to the attainment of a robust economic growth and improved quality of life and provide policy guidelines in the implementation of agreed reform initiatives.

The Senior Minister in January, 2017, explained his core mandate will be to coordinate the roles of the various economic ministries under the Akufo-Addo administration.

He was however, reported to have resigned from his office, few days ago ahead of the President’s announcement of new Ministers for his second term.
