Ultra-modern road for Appiatse opened to traffic

An ultra-modern asphalted road has been open to traffic in Appiatse in the Western Region weeks after the community was raised down by a mining explosion.

3news.com report, sighted by GhanaPlus.com said the official vehicle of the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah’s the first to ply the road when it was opened to traffic on Thursday, March 3.

Appiatse, a suburb of Bogoso in the Western Region was on Thursday, January 20 afternoon raze down following an explosion of mining explosives in the community.

The explosion rendered hundreds homely with some 14 others reported dead.

Police preliminary investigations said the explosive occurred when a vehicle transporting the mining explosive collided with a motorcycle.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the vehicle was traveling from Tarkwa to Chirano mines when the accident occurred.

 “…………Meanwhile, preliminary investigation has established that a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion,” a statement from the Ghana Police Service said.

 Following the disaster, a fund dubbed Appiatse Support Fund was established to ensure reconstruction of the community.

Reacting to the disaster in a twitter post, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said government will spare no effort to return the community back to normalcy.

“Government will spare no effort to ensure a rapid return to a situation of normalcy for residents of Apiate,” the President said.
