Five Years On: Are We Better Or Worse Under Akufo-Addo?

Vida Essel-LampteyFive years into Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidency, public trust in the Ghanaian government appears to be in waning alongside a growing perception of lacking political inclusion.
This is hardened by negative economic impacts caused by the recklessness, and a sense of unfulfilled political promises couple with crass arrogance of some government functionaries, which underscore the importance of collective buy-in for the country’s development aspirations.
In his election manifesto were promises to ensure the equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth and close the gap between different classes. He had committed to lifting millions of the suffering masses out of poverty when he’s given the nod, but he did not explain, how he intends to achieve this. It was his word to give each Constituency four million dollars in four years, again, he failed to tell us how the money would be disbursed.
I was part of the many who took his words with a pinch of salt and refused to accept in full some of the things he promised, and currently many more rather feel the opposite about his positive self-assessment – those things have actually gone from bad to worse under his watch.
It was his wish at the time, to eliminate graduate joblessness. He said ‘Yete sika so, nanso ekom di ye’.
Teachers are still grieving, Drivers are crying. Nurses are groaning, Ghanaians are mourning five years into your political administration.
The cost of constructing six-unit classroom block has quadrupled. I thought it will be cheaper to build schools under your reign.
You chastised late Mills for delivering lean kenkey instead of lean government at the time kenkey was selling one Ghana cedis.
