Ghana’s Republic Day

Ghana now celebrate Republic Day on July 1 only as a commemorative day.

The day was formerly held as a national holiday with national celebrations cross the country to mark the establishment of Ghana as a sovereign state.

It was first held on July 1, 1960 by the government but was cancelled on the year 2018 when Ghana’s Parliament passed the New Public Holidays Act.

The  Act passed under the administration Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also made amendment to the country’s Founder’s Day celebration marked on September 21, a day which mark the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
