Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has said the Dormaahene could have an affection for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) hence his call to the President and the Attorney General to end the criminal trial against Assin North MP –elect, Mr Gyakye Quayson.

He made the comment on Okay FM’s Adeakye Abia on Monday, July 3 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

 “….I think he has a soft spot for NDC because when Aseidu Nketia became the National Chairman he did not go to Saakwa to greet Saakwahene, (Saakwa king) but Aseidu Nketia went to Dormaa to greet Dormaahene,” Nana Obiri Boahen said.

“It could be that he has a soft spot, it could be, I haven’t said he is an NDC, it could be that he has a soft spot for the NDC, when Aseidu Nketia became the National Chairman, when he moved from Accra, he did not visit any community chief in Ghana, Accra no, Eastern Region, no! Eastern Region, no! Ashanti, no! Ahafo Bono, no! He didn’t visit any of them but Dormaahene to greet him and thank him so it could be”.

“Former President Mahama, if you follow his campaigns, every time, John Mahama will go to Dormaa the publicity is great so it could be,” Nana Obiri Boahen further explained his reason behind his comment.

Abort Gyakye Quayson’s trial- Dormaahene appeals

The Dormaahene,Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, while speaking at the 10th-Anniversary Lecture of John Evans Atta Mills, Ghana’s former late President in Sunyani in the Bono Region of Ghana appealed to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame to as a matter of urgency discontinue the criminal trial against Mr Gyakye Quayson.

He was of the view, prosecuting the NDC member following his overwhelming victory in the just ended Assin North by-election would not benefit the country in anyway hence call.

As a matter of urgency, I am appealing to the President of the Republic, Attorney General if he has any role to play, that trial should be aborted. The Attorney General should as a matter of urgency file a nolle prosequi to end that particular decision,” the Dormaahene appealed.

“Honestly, I don’t see the benefits this prosecution will bring Ghanaians. If he is in court, he can’t fulfil his mandate so the president and the Attorney General should do something urgently to end this matter, so we move on as Ghanaians,” the Dormaahene Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II added in a viral video sighted by GhanaPlus.com.

Gyakye Quayson’s trail

Mr Gyakye Quayson, MP -elect for Assin North Constituency is facing criminal charges for his alleged failure to renounce his dual citizen status prior to filling his nomination for the 2020 Parliamentary elections

He is among other things facing five counts; deceit of a public officer, forgery of a passport, knowingly making a false statutory declaration and perjury.

The development in May this year caused him his Parliamentary seat paving way for a by-election to elect a new Member of Parliament in his stead.

But he was overwhelming given bak the node by his constituents to re- represent them in Ghana’s legislative house.
