The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Elvis Banoemuleng Botah has slam the Christian community for visiting the former President, John Dramani Mahama  over the government proposed electronic transaction levy.

According to him, it is not in their place to do so.

Mr Botah questioned how much the community contributes to the national coffers from the tithe they receive to warrant the action they took.

“It is not in the place of the Christian council to do so. They collect tithe every now and then to the tune of millions of cedis we do not know. How much are they contributing to the state on the basis of the tithe they receive. Even what belongs to God they take and they do not want to share with the state and so it is a no go area for them to want do what they have done” Mr Botah said.

Christian group mount pressure on NDC to accept e-levy

The ruling NPP government member was speaking on  Good Morning Africa Pan African TV on Thursday, February 17, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

He made the comment while contributing to discussions on the visit leadership of the Christian community in the country paid the former President, John Dramani Mahama days ago to seek his intervention with the Minority in Parliament concerning the proposed e-levy which they have vehemently opposed since its announcement last year.

Report said the community made up of representatives from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) also discussed variety of issues which is of national interest with the former President.

“The GCBC was represented by Very Rev.Fr. Lazarus Anondee while the CCG was led by its Chairman, Most Rev. Dr Paul Boafo, and the General Secretary, Rev. Dr Cyril Fayose. The GPCC was represented by the General Secretary, Rev. Emmanuel Barrigah; Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Second Vice Chairman, and Apostle Aaron Ami-Narh,” Graphiconline reported.
