Vida Essel-LampteyThe Member of Parliament for the Anyaa Sowutum Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi has apologise to Ghanaians over the brawls which have graced Ghana’s Parliament in the past few weeks.
Speaking on Alhaji and Alhaji on Pan African TV on Saturday, December 4, he as Members of Parliament representing their constituencies they shouldn’t be seen to be portraying such hostile and uncompromising behaviours recorded in the house.
He has therefore, apologized over the development on the weekend current affairs programme monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“I also in relation to the budget use this opportunity to say that we are repenting of our sins as Members of Parliament and personally I am sorry for our behavior in the chamber so far from Friday leading up to a couple of days ago,” Mr Adomako Kissi said.
“In reflection, I think, we haven’t done well and personally, this one am talking on my own behalf as a Member of Parliament and I think that granted we were debating on something very crucial to the Ghanaian people and we have taken it to heart too much and we shouldn’t be seen so aggressive, so abrasive as we have been behaving so I am sorry as a Member of Parliament for that,” Mr Adomako Kissi added.
Scuffle in Parliament over 2022 budget
Ghana’s Parliament have been thrown into chaos since the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori- Atta presented the 2022 budget statement to the house.
The development arose from among other things introduction of a proposed electronic transaction levy presented as part of the 2022 budget statement for consideration.
The E-levy is seeking to impose a 1.75% tax on all mobile money transactions above ₵100, applicable to senders only, a proposal which the Minority have vehemently opposed.
There have subsequently been a number of brawls over the budget statement among the Minority and the Majority leading to several chaotic incident in Parliament, some of which led to the snatching of the Speaker’s chair, walk out by both sides of the house and rejection and approval of the budget in the absence of Majority and Minority respectively.
