Andre Ayew celebrates his 100th Ghana cap by steering Black Stars to World Cup playoffs

Al Sadd forward Andre Ayew celebrated his 100th Ghana cap by steering Black Stars to 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-offs.

The 31-year-old scored the only goal as Ghana defeated South 1-0 at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday to leapfrog their opponents at the top of Group G.

Ayew is now second in the all-time appearances for Ghana, only behind former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan (109).

He has scored 22 goals in the process for the senior national team making him the fifth-highest scoring player, behind Karim Abdul Razak (25), Kwasi Owusu (36), Edward Acquah (45), and Asamoah Gyan (51).

He has been with the Black Stars since 2007, having made his debut under Claude Le Roy, and has been coached by eight different coaches during his time with the team.

The victory means Ghana join Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, and DR Congo to the play-off stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

Africa’s five World Cup representatives at Qatar 2022 will be decided when the two-legged play-offs take place in March.
