Andre Ayew scores but Swansea lose to Bristol City to slip in promotion chase

Ghana captain Andre Ayew scored for Swansea City as they lost at home to Bristol City in the SkyBet Championship.

The Swans hosted the The Robin’s at the Liberty Stadium in Wales for this fixture on Saturday afternoon, seeking to climb second on the Championship table.

After a goalless first half, Ayew put Swansea ahead from the spot after 55 minutes of play.

However, the home side lost grip of the game and conceded an equalizer shortly after; Nahki Wells equalizing after 66 minutes.

As Swansea pushed forward for another goal, they got punished and conceded a second goal courtesy Kasey Palmer.

Second half substitute Antoine Semenyo compounded the woes of the home side when he scored in added on time to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

Bristol City held on to the crucial away win as they chase a playoff spot while for Swansea, they miss a fine opportunity to move close to the top and occupy the automatic promotion places.

The Swans now lie 4th on the table on 59 points, 4 behind the second position.

Ayew who is Swansea’s top scorer this season has now netted 10 times in 29 appearances. He has an overall goal involvement of 12 for the promotion chasing Swansea side.

His experience and leadership has made him an indispensable member of Steve Cooper’s side.
