BREAKING: FIFA dismisses South Africa’s frivolous protest against Ghana in 2022 WC qualifier
World football governing body, FIFA has dismissed South Africa’s protest case against Ghana seeking a replay of the clash between the Black Stars and the Bafana Bafana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) last month filed a protest at FIFA after the Bafana Bafana had lost 1-0 to the Black Stars in the final Group G game of the African qualifiers.
After weeks of looking at the protest, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has thrown it out to give Ghana the legitimacy to hold on to a ticket in the playoffs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
A FIFA statement released after bringing finality to the protest case on Friday said, “The protest lodged by South Africa has been declared inadmissible by the Disciplinary Committee as it did not meet the requirements foreseen under art. 46 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 14 of the Regulations of the Preliminary Competition of the FIFA World Cup 2022.”
However, FIFA notes that SAFA is free to appeal the decision if it so wishes.
“The decision is subject to appeal,” the FIFA statement added.
