Ex-goalie Abubakari Damba criticizes attitude of Black Stars players in Ethiopia clash, eyes better performance against South Africa
Former Ghana goalkeeper, Abubakari Damba has criticized the game plan and the attitude of the Black Stars players after sharing the spoils against Ethiopia last Thursday.
The Black Stars will play host to the Bafana Bafana at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.
The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Orlando stadium in Johannesburg in the penultimate qualifier last Thursday.
The four-time African Champions must, however, beat South Africa at all cost in the final group game to secure qualification to the final playoffs.
South Africa has extended their lead in Group G after inflicting a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe at the FnB stadium on Thursday.
They sit top of the table with 13 points with Ghana at the second spot with 10 points.
According to the former Dreams FC goalkeeper’s trainer, the attitude of the players and the game plan especially in the second half was poor and abysmal and is, therefore, eyeing a better performance when they face South Africa in the decisive clash.
“We were better in the first half and I was expecting that we improve on that in the second half but we failed to keep our composure,” he said on GTV Sports Plus.
“We played poorly in the second half and it was shocking.
“Our attitude and game plan was poor and I think we were lucky not have to concede more goals because we lost concentration at some point.
“This is not good enough if you want to qualify for a tournament and I am expecting a better performance on Sunday against South Africa,” he added.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 19:00GMT.
