GFA set to name Otto Addo and Ibrahim Tanko as Black Stars assistant coaches

The Ghana Football Association is set to name Otto Addo and Ibrahim Tanko as Black Stars assistant coaches ahead of Ghana’s playoff games against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The pair will assist incoming coach Chris Hughton to take down Nigeria over two legs with Ghana playing the first leg in a yet to be named venue and traveling to Abuja for the second leg.

GFA boss Kurt Okraku and other officials met Otto Addo in Germany for the vacant post but that has changed.

Otto Addo was the first assistant coach for former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac after the sacking of CK Akonnor in September 2021.

During his time with Milovan Rajevac, he combined his national team duties with his coaching job at Dortmund.

He could not join Ghana’s squad for the 33rd African Cup of Nations because of scheduling problems.

Ibrahim Tanko was appointed as the first assistant coach for the Ghana national team to James Kwesi Appiah in May 2017. After serving in that role for two years, he was promoted to serve as the head coach of the Ghana national U23 side.

He was appointed as coach for the local Black Stars in 2020, Tanko left the job after five months.
