Ghana captain Andre Ayew on cloud nine over former teammate Michail Antonio progress at West Ham

Ghana international Andre Ayew is excited his former teammate Michail Antonio is getting the reward his hard work deserves this season.

The duo shared the dressing together in 2016 before the Ghana captain made a return to Swansea City.

Ayew, who won the BBC African Player of the Year in 2011 joined the Hammers in 2016 on a four-year deal to become the clubs record signing.

He however left the club after two seasons and returned to Swansea after scoring 12 Premier League goals for the Irons.

Despite failing to settle at West Ham, Ayew, who currently ply his trade for Al Sadd in Qatar says he is glad to see his former teammate taking his game to the next level.

Michail Antonio has had a descent performance in the ongoing season despite lack of goals since September.

“Michail has not had it that easy but I’m glad he is getting all the reward his hard work deserves,” he told Londonworld.

“At the beginning he had challenges of staying fit and he worked really hard to get to that.

“He always had that ability to play well, take people on and go past two or three players.

“In training, you could easily see that there was something special but what he’s done now is add something special and that is the finishing.

“In football the moment you add that finishing and assisting to your game then you’re going places so it is honestly refreshing to see him getting it right over there.”
