HSV coach not happy with Gyamerah after poor performance against Schalke
HSV were missing three minutes plus stoppage time – and despite their poor performance against Schalke, they would have scored three points. After all, it was a set piece that led to an equalization shortly before the end. That was avoidable and annoyed coach Tim Walter very much. He had found a culprit quickly after the final whistle.
It is not unusual for a goal to be conceded in standard situations. In this case, however, it was totally unnecessary for Walter. After a Schalke corner by Thomas Ouwejan, Rodrigo Zalazar got the ball, he played the ball on Marius Bulter, who was barely offside because HSV defender Jan Gyamerah was moving too slowly. Gyamerah also lost the subsequent duel against Zalazar and allowed the pass to goal scorer Ko Itakura. Walter waddled Gyamerah after the game for the scene live on TV (Sport1).
“Gyambo’s turn to the ball, he just has to take his foot forward and then nothing happens. He gets the ball through his legs. That was just badly defended ”, grumbled Walter, who was also annoyed that Gyamerah did not move out faster when Zalazar was passed. “Then it would have been clearly offside.”
Walter is certainly not wrong with his criticism. Whether it has to be made public in this form live on TV is at least debatable.
Gyamerah is still fighting for a new HSV contract
One thing is certain, for Gyamerah it should not be easier after the scene in the new year at HSV. The last time he was dropped due to numerous injuries, Miro Muheim and Josha Vagnoman should be back in January. Gyamerah will then go back to the bench. This would reduce his chances of being offered for a new contract at the same time. His HSV contract expires next summer.
