LIVE UPDATES: Ghana 3-1 Zimbabwe – 2022 FIFA WCQ

Good evening and welcome to the live text commentary session for Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The Black Stars are hosting the Warriors at the Cape Coast Stadium today in a Group G encounter of the Africa qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

After training with his Black Stars players for the last four days, coach Milovan Rajevac has studied his players and ready to lead the team to victory against Zimbabwe today.

For Ghana’s starting eleven today, new call-up Jojo Wollacott is starting and post and will be working with a defensive back four.

Midfielder Thomas Partey is handed a big role in midfield while Kamaldeen Sulemana and Mohammed Kudus are selected to play in the attack of Ghana.

Prior to this evening’s encounter, South Africa has defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in the other matchday 3 game of Group G. The result piles more pressure on Ghana.

The Black Stars need to win convincingly to keep hopes of qualifying for teh 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers alive.

We are just 15 minutes away from kick off at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Kick off:

1’ We are off at the Cape Coast Stadium as Ghana kicks us off for their crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

3’ First test for Joseph Wallocot in post but he comes out with flying colors. Great goalkeeping.

5’ Goal!! It’s a goal for Ghana. Mohammed Kudus plays a 1-2 with striker Jordan Ayew before finishing in style. The Black Stars lead after five minutes.

7′ It’s all cheers at the Cape Coast Stadium with fans singing and dancing after that stunning goal from Mohammed Kudus. Can Zimbabwe get back into this one?

8′ Injury scare for Ghana. Talented teenager Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is down in pain. Fortunately he is able to continue. Game has restarted.

10’Andre Ayew commits an offence after losing possession. It will be a goal kick for Zimbabwe.

12′ Jordan Ayew tries to use his body but exerts too much energy. He ends up conceding a foul.

14′ It is fair to say the game has dragged since that opening goal. Ghana no longer committing men forward with Zimbabwe also reluctant to push forward.

17′ Zimbabwe enjoying the better of possession in the last five minutes but can they make it count?

19′ Baba Rahman with a brilliant run to create a chance for Mohammed Kudus. The forward fires from close range but his effort goes straight into the waiting arms of the Zimbabwe goalkeeper.

21′ Abdul Fatawu Issahku goes past two defenders, attempts to fire a shot but unfortunately slips. Great stuff from the Africa U-20 best player.

24′ CLOSE!!! Kamaldeen Sulemana nearly scores with a thumping efforts. His effort took a deflection and hence Ghana will get a corner.

25′ Corner effected but Zimbabwe clear their lines.

30’ Mohammed Kudus is shown the yellow card for apparent time wasting.

32’ A bit of entertainment for the fans to enjoy. Mohammed Kudus skips past his marker, dummies and turns to put his marker off-balance, before he wins a free-kick. Great play from the young chap.

34′ Free-kick for Ghana in a dangerous position. Teenager Abdul Fatawu Issahku takes but his effort is well saved. Ghana 1-0 Zimbabwe.

36′ Ghana pushing for the second goal but so far the defense of the visitors refusing to concede again.

40′ We are left with five minutes of regular time in the first half.

41′ Oh great play. Joseph Wallacot shows he can play under pressure there.

42′ Goal!! No wait. The goal won’t stand. Kamaldeen Sulemana scored but he is flagged for offside.

45′ We will do two minutes of additional time.

48′ GOAL!!! Knowledge Musona scores from the spot to draw level for Zimbabwe. Game on.

50′ We have a game on our hand now. Zimbabwe now playing with a lot of confidence after scoring.

54′ Ghana dictating the pace of the game now. Can the home team secure the needed win? At the moment it is hard to tell.

57′ CHANCE!! Zimbabwe almost scoring the second goal. A good effort kisses the goal post. Lucky Ghana there.

59 Ghana wastes a corner. Now a chance for a substitution. Teenager Fatawu Issahku makes way for Baba Iddrisu. Jordan Ayew is also replaced by Benjamin Tetteh.

60′ CHANCE!! Substitute Benjamin Tetteh is put through on goal by Baba Rahman. His short unfortunately sails over the bar.

63′ Ghana goalkeeper Joseph Wollacot pulls off a good save to deny Zimbabwe a second goal.

65′ GOAL!!! Thomas Partey scores to shoot Ghana into the lead. Great goal from the Arsenal midfielder. Ghana 2-1 Zimbabwe.

68′ Ghana with a free-kick in the Zimbabwe area. Kamaldeen Sulemana takes but Djiku’s header sails over the bar.

72′ It has been all Ghana after that second goal. Substitute Benjamin Tetteh sets up Mohammed Kudus whose effort is saved comfortably by the opposing goalkeeper. It could have easily been a goal there.

75′ Kamaldeen Sulemana uses his dribbling skill very well there to go past his marker in a tight angle. he tries to find a teammate but Zimbabwe clear their lines.

78′ CHANGE: Kamaldeen Sulemana makes way for Daniel-Kofi Kyereh. The teenager has been outstanding this afternoon and receives cheers from the crowd.

80’ We are into the last 10 minutes of today’s encounter. Will there be another goal?

87’ GOAL!!! Andre Ayew scores with a powerful header to increase the lead for Ghana. It’s now 3-1 against Zimbabwe.

90’ We will do 2 minutes of stoppage time.
