Milovan Rajevac reveals decision to play Daniel Amartey as full back

The head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac has revealed his reason to play Daniel Amartey as a right back.

The Leicester City defender was astonishingly deployed as a fullback in Ghana’s doubleheader games against Zimbabwe in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers earlier this month in the absence of Andy Yiadom.

The 67-year-old says Amartey is a versatile player and he trusts him to do whatever it takes to help Ghana secure a slot in next year’s football Mundial.

“We couldn’t get Andy Yiadom to camp due to injury and when I was making a game plan for Zimbabwe, because I wanted a very offensive midfield and attack, I decided to put some players in defence and have others in the back so we protect ourselves for an important result so that is why our defence was pretty tall,” the Serbian trainer said in an interview with Ghana FA website.

“Daniel has played that in the past, he even played in a defensive midfield position so he is a versatile player and he is a player I can trust and I knew he is up to the task so he delivered excellent performance and he said also he is ready to do whatever it takes to take Ghana to the World Cup and follow my instructions so everything went well,” he said.

Milovan Rajevac will hope to have the full complement of his team when Ghana face Ethiopia and South Africa in the final group stage games of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers next month.
