Ukraine-based Ghanaian defender Najeeb Yakubu cries for help from government

Ghanaian international, Najeeb Yakubu has sent a plea to the Ghana government begging for evacuation from troubled Ukraine.

The defender plays his football in Ukraine for top-flight outfit Vorskla Poltava. After the attack from Russia, he has been forced to stay indoors and could soon be left with no food if the attacks continue.

Speaking to 3Sports in an interview, Najeeb Yakubu says things are not easy in the European country.

“I am about an hour and a half away from Kharkiv, a city that’s been attacked. We’re just confused and we’re stuck here. Nothing is working; no banks, trains, taxis, airports or restaurants, nothing. Everything is finished in the shops,” the highly-rated defender said.

Najeeb Yakubu continued, “We don’t know what to do. We have to move as soon as possible but how can we? We are stuck here.”

Besides the 21-year-old footballer, other Ghanaian students in Ukraine have also pleaded to the Ghana government for evacuation.

They are unable to travel back home because of the shutdown of airports in Ukraine.
