The Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has revealed the Ministry of Health during the 2021 COVID-19 year spent a whopping ₵32million on zoom conferences.
Mr Dafeamekpor made the revelation on TV3 NewDay on Thursday, December 16, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“It will be totally unpardonable for the minority to say that because we oppose to certain aspect of the budget and are demanding that they be review or taken out we will abandon our constitutional duties of reviewing and scrutinizing how monies were spent on 2020, Otherwise how else could we have established or determined that ₵32million was spent by the Minister of Health on Zoom conference in the 2021 COVID year”.
According to him, the Minister, Mr Kweku Agyeman Manu is yet to officially answer questions on why the ministry spent such a huge amount of money on conferences and on what exactly.
“32million, he says conferences and when at the time the President had directed that nobody should travel and that all conferences were held here so you see the whole year is only the President who have done some travels. All ministers and appointees stayed back and we saw a lot of zoom meetings, even Parliament had to do zoom meeting,” Mr Dafeamekpor said.
“That is the budget he brought, this is the expenditure he brought,” he emphasized when quizzed by Mr Jonnie Hughes, the NewDay host if the ₵32million was spent on data.
The NDC MP said it is important for the Minority to take part of the budget review despite their opposition to some aspect of it so to ensure some of these things are swept under the carpet.
