The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team member, Mr George Ayisi has reacted to comment made by the Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh over Minority’s demand for the inclusion of the Keta tidal wave in the 2022 budget statement.

Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Tuesday, December 8, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the comment by the minister was emotional.

“I thought that statement was emotional because the people from the Northern sector will also look at the Pwalugu dam because of the spillage of the Bagre dam and so if he says the Pelele, yes, there is a problem and but the exigency,” Mr Ayisi said.

“What ever it is i think Nana Opoku was emotional,” he added.

I will stage demo in Ashanti if you include Keta sea defence in 2022 budget

The Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh while reacting to demand by the Minority in Parliament to government to capture funding for the construction of the Keta sea defence project said he will lead a demonstration in the Ashanti Region if government heed to the call.

According to him, there was no need for government to make any financial allocations in the 2022 allocate since his constituent who are faced with similar challenge have not benefited from such.

He was of the view, the Minority had no such right to make demands because Keta was their stronghold.

“How can you the opposition tell me that I should include funding for construction of Keta sea defence in the budget? Was there budgetary allocation for Kumasi flooding? If Finance Minister includes it, I’ll also lead the Kumasi residents to demonstrate”, Dr. Opoku Prempeh.

Include Keta tidal wave in 2022 budget

The Minority have rejected the 2022 budget and demanded among other things inclusion of the Keta tidal wave disaster, a disaster which saw nearly, 2000 people misplaced, 3,000 homes washed away and dozens submerged in sea water on November 6.
