The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has adjudged Alhaji Mashud Muhammed the 2021 National Best Farmer.

Alhaji  Muhamammed, a resident of the Mion District was awarded the prestigious national farmer award at the 37th National Farmers’ Day celebration held on Friday, December 3, at Cape Coast in the Central Region.

For his award, the renowned farmer was presented with a GH¢600,000 and a two-bedroom apartment.

3news.com report,speaking at the ceremony, the Keynote Speaker, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured farmers government would create the enabling environment together with policies and programmes to ensure growth in the sector.

Mr Akufo-Addo noted that “there is wealth in agriculture,” the report said.

“This year’s event has taken on added significance, because of the efforts of our farmers and fisherfolks in ensuring that there were no shortages of food at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic,” Nana Akufo-Addo added.

National Farmers’ Day

The National Farmers’ Day celebration, a government of Ghana initiative to celebrate the contribution of farmers and fishermen to the economic development of the country is held annually in December.

The year’s celebration, the 37th edition was held on the theme “Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana” and was expected to honour farmers across the country who have contributed in diverse ways to the food basket of the country.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), this year’s national celebration was held at Cape Coast in the Central Region with regional and district celebrations across the length and breadth of the country.

Winners were awarded with various prices including tricycles, bicycles, wheelbarrow, knapsack sprayer, wellington boots, spade/shovel, cutlass, agro-chemicals, disinfectants, feed, transport crates and a water tank.

The winners includes crop, fish and animal farmers selected from all 16 regions in the country.
