Vida Essel-LampteyAn Immunologist at the West Africa Center for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens, University of Ghana, Dr Yaw Bediako has called on the law enforcement agencies to pick up the well to in the Ghanaian communities who flout government COVID-19 protocol as well.
He explained although, government had placed restrictions on pubs and night club activities, a place usually patronized by the well to do, the directive were blatantly flouted at such places and urged that enforcement be extended to such places.
“Is not about forcing these restrictions in parliament, in general, Even though we have restrictions, citizenry is flaunting it and then there is no enforcement, so cannot not blame purely just the government, we as people have brains, we should be listening, we understand the danger we put ourselves in so citizenry is as culpable in this, but I think may be the government have to start asking, are there stricter measures that we need to put in place.
“But is not just about arresting a few kayayes, I think it is easy to pick on certain section of our population to enforce certain things but the well to do who are sitting in the pubs on Fridays or Saturdays should be, if you picking people you should pick them as well”.
Dr Yaw Bediako made the comment on TV3’s weekend current affairs programme, the KEY POINT on Saturday, February, 6 2021 and monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He was speaking about the upsurge in COVID-19 in the country, in Parliament and subsequent measures put in place to curtail the spread.
He said the country could do better in enforcing the guidelines than we currently seeing adding that without adherence to those protocols the country was only wasting its time in the fight against the virus.
