Gov’t allegedly lease 615 acres of Adenta lands to Charles Owusu

The Government of Ghana has allegedly leased Adenta lands totaling some 614.629 acres to the former Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the Forest Commission, Mr Charles Owusu.

The said transaction, a document sighted by GhanaPlus.com said was made on April 15, 2021 and at a cost of Fifty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC55, 000.00) only.

“This lease is made the 15th day of April, 2021 BETWEEN the PRESIDENTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA ( hereinafter called “the Lessor” which expression shall where the context so admits or require include his successors-in-office and his duly authorized officers and servants) acting by STEPHEN AYESU NTIM, CHAIRMAN OF THE LANDS COMMISSION of the one part and CHARLES OWUSU of P.O.Box 235, Abeka Accra in the Greater Accra Region  of the republic of Ghana (hereinafter called “the Lessee” which expression shall where the context so admits or require include Personal Representative, Successors, Agents, Sublessees and Assigns) of the other part.

Under and by virtue of an Executive Instrument, State Lands (Accra –Adenta Remote Receiving Station), 1968 (E.I 127), the Government of the Republic of Ghana acquired a large tract of land inclusive of the subject land, measuring an area of 632.74 acres which said E. I 127 was later amended in 1981 by E.I 16 reducing the total] size of the land to 612. 629 acres.”

The said lands the document revealed originally belongs to the Kplen We of Agbawe Quarter of La and was earmarked by the government for the development of the a business district to be named Adenta Central Business District.

“The Lessor with the intention of developing the area into a central Business District to be known as Adenta Central Business District has demarcated into plots to be provided with infrastructure, roads, drains, electricity and pipe borne water”.

“The being allocated was in the local plan by Government for the original owners, Kplen We of Agbawe Quarter of La as a goodwill gesture. The Lessor has offered and the Lessee (bona fide purchaser for value) has accepted   to take a lease of ALL THAT piece of land described in the Scheduled hereto (hereinafter referred to as “the demise premises”) subject to the terms and condition herein contained.

“In consideration of the sum of Fifty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC55, 000.00) paid by the Lessee to the Lessor,” the document reads .

The document was signed and seal by Charles Owusu in the presence of one Owusu Dwomo.

A picture of Charles Owusu was also attached to the said document.

Forest Commission

Charles Owusu, a former Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the Forest Commission of Ghana was appointed by the late Forest Commission boss , Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Sir John following his appointment in March 14, 2017 by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He, however, announced on Peace FM’s flagship morning current affairs programme, Kokrokroo on June 18, exactly, two weeks after the death of Sir John that he has quit the position.

Charles Owusu named in Sir John’s will

The news of Charles Owusu’s acquisition of Adenta lands comes barely a month, the will Sir John made headlines for willing state lands to his family members.

In the said will, the politician, who was the Chief Executive Officer of the Forest Commission until his death willed some 5.5 acres of the Achimota Forest Reserve and some Government of Ghana Ramsar lands; a wetlands site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar convention and located at Sakumono in Accra to named persons with one Charles Owusu as one of the beneficiaries.
