Gov’t to renovate Philip Quaque Boys School in Cape Coast

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged government will rehabilitate the Philip Quaque Boys School, the first primary school established in the country.

Addressing a gathering of Ghanaians, foreigners and diplomats at the 65th Independence Day Anniversary celebration on Sunday, March 6, he said the renovation is the country’s gift to the people of Cape Coast

“Let me announce to the good people of Cape Coast that in commemoration of this occasion, Government has decided to rehabilitate in full, the Philip Quaque Boys School, the first Primary School in our country as its anniversary gift to Cape Coast”, President Akufo-Addo said at the event monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

Philip Quaque Boys School

Philip Quaque Boys School, the first school in Ghana and in West Africa was established in 1766 at Cape Coast, the then administrative capital of colonial Gold Coast.

Formally called the Government Boys School, the school was established by an Anglican Priest named Rev. Philip Quaque.

The school which has offered many prominent Ghanaian mostly, from Cape Coast and its environs formal education is currently in a deplorable state, some 256 years on affecting effective teaching and learning.
