Northern Ghana heavily affected depletion of forest reserves – Abdulai Nantogmah

The representative of the overlord of Dagbon, Abdulai Nantogmah during the green Ghana dubar at the Gbewaa palace has advised the ministry of lands and natural resources representative, Madam Lawyer Suweibatu Adam to take into consideration of nurturing the trees that are planted but not to plant and forget of it.

According to him, chiefs demarcated land to the ministry to reserved forest but when you go round there is no trees on such lands.

Trees planting is a social responsibility because it is through our own activities that lead to depletion of the forest we have in our country.

The depletion of our forest reserves are largely caused by human activities such as inappropriate farm activities, charcoal and bush burning, timber logging and others. If this activities is not checked would continue to caused depletion of our fores

Northern Ghana is heavily affected by the depletion of our forest reserves. The level of deforestation needed very urgent solution such as this initiative, mobilizing for a Greener future planting 20 million trees.

According to, Madam Lawyer Suweibatu Adam last year they were targeted to plant five million tree but end up of planting Seven million trees and this year we target planting 20 million trees.

Trees planting exercise is both religious assignment and social responsibility which every individual must engaged in. Every religious person knows the reward he stands to gain from God due to the benefit it would give to all living things.

On the process the Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Yendi, Hamid Abubakari Yussif said, 75% of last year trees planted survived.

He therefore called on government and traditional authorities to put in measures to minimized the activities that depletes our forest reserves.
