A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has apologized to the rank and file of the party following the approval of all ministerial nominees named by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by Parliament.

Speaking on BigIssue on TV3 Newday monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the approval has sparked disappointments across the rank and file of the party and it was only fair the party apologize for the development.

Edudzi Tamakloe, however, described the development as a temporary setback and pray the party moves on for the bigger purpose which is to oust the ruling New Patriotic Party government out of office come election 2024.

“….. I have affirm my belief and confidence in this leadership that this is just a temporary setback, the real war is ahead. In winning the war, there are battles that we fight, you may lose one or two but ultimately you want to win the war and that war is removing this catastrophe of a government, catastrophe of a party because of the challenges that this government has brought onto the people, the untold hardship this government have brought on the people of this country”.

“I strongly believe that we can put this behind us, firm up, re-group for the task ahead. I am not going as it were today to want to kill the very soldiers I will be using in the battle,”Edudzi Tamakloe said.

“We apologies sincerely to our rank and file but we will re-group and capture,”  he apologized.

Parliament approves Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominee

Edudzi Tamakloe was reacting to the approval of K.T Hammond as Minister for Trade Ministry, Bryan Aheampong as Minister for Food and Agriculture, Stephen Asamoah Boateng as Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs  Minister, Osei Bonsu Amoah as Minister of State at the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry, Mohammed Amin Adams as Minister of State at the Finance Ministry and Dr Stephen Amoah as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

All of the six got yes votes more than the total number of the majority caucus in Parliament.

3news.com report the Speaker, Alban Bagbin after the ballot on Friday March 24 said  “Honourable Members, at long last collation of votes has ended.The register of 275 eligible voters, 3 voters were absent so 272 did exercise their franchise. The results of the voting are as follows; Honorable KT Hammond 154 Yes, 116 Nos, rejected 1, Bryan Acheampong, 167 Yes, 98 Nos, rejected 4, abstention 3. Stephen Asamoah Boateng 147 Yes, 122 Nos, 3 abstentions. Mohammed Amin Adams 152 Yes, 117 Nos, rejected 1, abstentions 2. Osei Bonsu Amoah 149 Yes, 120 Nos, abstentions 3, Stephen Amoah 146 yes, 123 nos, 3 absentions.”

The approval comes weeks after the mother party of the Minority Caucus, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) asked the MPs not to approve new ministerial nominees.

The directive was to push for reduction in the size of government to reduce what they described as needless drain on scarce public resources.
